What you need to know about PB2

PB2-C2.jpg

When I had just discovered PB2 I was in heaven. I love peanut butter more than anything and I thought how great I can have 2 tbsp for 45 calories compared to 190 calories and I can sprinkle it on everything throughout the day and still not reach 100 calories. This seems way to good to be true, let me do some research. PB2 is a powdered peanut butter, made by squeezing natural oils out of the peanut and then dehydrating what’s left, yielding a powder in which 90% of the fat is removed from the peanut. This means that PB2 is NOT a whole food. I try to eat the most nutrient dense foods on the planet and PB2 does not fall in this category. The great thing about a peanut is it has all the nutrients that nature created, fat, vitamins, and proteins. However since everything is sucked out of it to make PB2 there is no nutritional content left in the powder. They have to add a mixture of sugar and salt into the powder to make it taste better without the fat. I know I’d rather have the fat vs. the sugar and salt!

PB2 is also not organic and you know what that means! PESTICIDE city! Peanuts are one of the most heavily sprayed crops on the planet. Exposure to pesticides is horrible for you, it can cause birth defects, nerve damage and cancer.

I am now staying away from this product because I am dedicated to eating the most nutrient dense foods we have out there for us and this is not one of them. However I will continue to have my serving size of organic peanut or almond butter a day :)
